Interdisciplinary Excellence Built On World-Class Knowledge

The following is a list of things to keep in mind when designing a poster to be printed at LFP:

  • The printer adds a 3/8 inch margin on both sides of the printed area. Thus 24 inch paper limits you to 23.25 inch prints, 36 inch paper limits you to 35.25 inch prints, and 60 inch paper limits you to 59.25 inch prints.
  • Paper only comes in 24, 36, 42, 54, and 60 inch widths. There is no 48 inch wide paper.
  • We use roll paper so only one dimension is limited by the hard margins of the printer.
  • When PowerPoint prints a document to the printer, there will be small changes in font size, small changes in font size often result in large changes on the printed page. Leave room for fonts to grow a little if needed.
  • PowerPoint limits you to a 56 inch X 56 inch poster, this should not be a problem for most posters. The printer is able to scale prints to larger sizes.
  • PowerPoint has problems with transparent text box backgrounds, use a lighter color instead of setting transparent fills.
  • PowerPoint and the windows Postscript driver have problems with backgrounds on the slide master if you resize a slide from small to large with a background.

We are located in ETRL 203, stopping by and discussing your poster before you begin may make for a better poster and an easier experience in getting the poster prepared.

PDF creation

We currently convert all PowerPoint files to PDF and then print the PDF file. You may bring us the PDF file to start with to increase the probability that your poster will print.

Microsoft Office 2007 has a download that allows you to save your poster in PDF format, this save as function preservers the large size of your poster.

If you do not have the plug-in down load it from Microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4d951911-3e7e-4ae6-b059-a2e79ed87041&displaylang=en

Using the PDF plug-in

  • Click on the "Office Button" in the upper left corner of the window
